Do I have to get vaccinated?

It is important to know the risks involved in traveling. The most frequent conditions in Colombia are acute mountain sickness, stomach problems, malaria and yellow fever in some areas of the country.

This information corresponds to the current information of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Colombia:

In Colombia, travelers visiting areas below 2200 meters above sea level (especially jungle areas and some natural parks) are recommended to apply the yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before traveling to:

• The departments of Amazonas, Caquetá, Casanare, Cesar, Guainía, Guaviare, Guajira, Meta, Putumayo, Vaupés and Vichada, where more than 80% of the municipalities are classified as high risk.
• The department of Magdalena: The district of Santa Marta and the municipalities of Ciénaga and Aracataca.
• The department of Norte de Santander, Catatumbo area: municipalities of Convention, El Carmen, El Tarra, Teorama, Sardinata, Tibu, El Zulia, Hacarí and San Calixto.
• The department of Chocó: Rio Sucio, Carmen del Darién, Juradó, Nuquí and Unguía.
• The department of Antioquia: Dabeiba, Mutatá, Turbo and Yondó.

Among others, the vaccine is not suitable for people with HIV positive, pregnant women and children under 6 months. In order to go to jungle regions or natural parks, other vaccines are also recommended, such as tetanus and hepatitis A and B. It is recommended that foreigners who come from countries that have the dengue vaccine get it before traveling if they are going to visit sites below 1,800 masl.
