What's the best time of the year to visit Colombia?

Colombia is in the tropics, so there are no seasons as in the northern hemisphere. Weather is fairly stable all year, with a dry and a rainy season. Because the country spans very different ecosystems, altitude is the best predictor of the weather — so the real question is where you want to go.

What makes Colombia unique?

Its people are passionate, happy and friendly with visitors. Breathtaking landscapes. Endless activities to enjoy a different country.

Why Colombia?

#1 country in biodiversity per square kilometre, 311 ecosystems, tropical weather 365 days a year, two oceans, a different Caribbean, 42% of its land in the Amazon, magical páramo landscapes, 86 indigenous communities, 12% of the territory protected, vibrant music and fairs and festivals all year long.

It was closed to the world for decades, so you'll find authentic culture, people and unexplored places like nowhere else on the planet.

Why Wild Colombia Travel?

You get an end-to-end travel experience based on local knowledge and high quality standards. We work only with hotels, villas and guides we trust, and we specialize in tailor-made itineraries based on each traveler's preferences — whether you want established resort destinations or a less-trodden path.

Why should I choose a custom-made itinerary?

With a custom itinerary you are in control. Your personal travel specialist works with you to understand what you want and shape a truly unique vacation: a lively weekend in a modern city followed by a few days on the beach, outdoor adventure mixed with insider cultural experiences — just tell us your idea.

Does it cost more to use a travel agent?

Not at all. Cheapest is not always best: we work with reputable suppliers we have negotiated with to provide competitive prices and upgraded value. You don't pay more for the same product — you get quality, value and the services of a good agent.

I am overwhelmed with information…

The travel industry can be complicated. We help you make sense of it so you are informed and prepared. Tell us what you are looking for and we'll build the experience that meets your expectations.

I am traveling with kids, what can I expect?

There are plenty of activities for the little ones, and we work with a local company that provides what you need for kids and babies (car seats, strollers, baby carriers…).

The solo traveler's guide for Colombia

If you are a woman who wants to visit Colombia and doesn't want to come alone, join our women-only trips (Wild Women Travel): friendly and safe.

How can I travel safely?

Follow the common-sense rules of any foreign country: be aware of your surroundings when you are not with us, and don't carry large amounts of cash or valuables. And always have travel insurance — it's included in all our experiences.

What happens if I need local support?

Don't panic: we support you at all times during your trip. When you arrive, your concierge gives you a phone number where you can reach us. We also strongly recommend international insurance covering medical emergencies, flight delays or cancellations and lost luggage.

Do I need a visa?

It depends on your nationality. Citizens of the US, Canada, the UK, the EU/Schengen area, most of Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and many other countries don't need a tourist visa for short stays. Some nationalities do, and others can enter visa-free if they hold a valid US or Schengen visa or residence permit.

Rules change: check the official list at Cancillería de Colombia or ask us before booking.

Do I have to get vaccinated?

The most common conditions for travelers are altitude sickness, stomach problems, and malaria and yellow fever in some areas. Colombia's Ministry of Health recommends the yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before visiting areas below 2,200 m (especially jungle regions and some national parks, e.g. Amazonas, Caquetá, Guaviare, La Guajira, Meta, Putumayo, Vaupés, Vichada and parts of Magdalena, Chocó and Antioquia).

For jungle areas, tetanus and hepatitis A and B vaccines are also recommended. Check the latest guidance at minsalud.gov.co and with your doctor.

What are your payment methods?

We accept credit cards, PayPal and bank transfers, among others. Ask your consultant for the option that suits you best.

Can I split a payment between two cards? Can my parents pay for the trip?

Absolutely. We are flexible: you can use whichever credit card(s) you wish to pay for the trip.

How can I pay for my personal expenses?

Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept Visa and Mastercard; some take American Express and Diners. Carry cash for small purchases, especially in small towns. We can help you find a reliable money exchange at your destination.

Where can I exchange my USD or EUR?

At exchange houses in airports, hotels and banks — never on the street. The official rate (TRM) is published daily by the Colombian press.

What is the domestic power supply?

110 V AC, 60 Hz, with US-style plugs (two flat pins, sometimes a round ground pin). Adapters are easy to find; check your devices' specifications.

How can I support local businesses?

By traveling to Colombia and buying products, souvenirs, food and services from locals, you support small family businesses.

What does sustainable travel mean for Wild Colombia Travel?
